The Mongolian word for 'ibis' is Билүүс bilüüs (classical bilügüs).
The spoonbills are known as Халбаган хушуут khalbagaŋ khushuut meaning 'spoon billed', Халбагант khalbagant, Халбаганат khalbagnat, or Халбагат khalbagt, all meaning 'spooned'. The last is the name adopted in the updated terminology of 2007.
