General
Information is based on dictionaries and other sources. Pinyin readings reflect standard Mandarin usage; for some dialect alternative names it may be of little practical use, especially for South China. Many Korean glosses are highly tentative. Comments and corrections welcome.
The weavers are found only in Yunnan in the far south of China. They are generally called 织布鸟 'weave-cloth bird' in Chinese, which appears to be a calque on the English name.
Zheng Guangmei's world list amends this to 织雀 'weaving sparrow', on the eminently sensible grounds that though these birds may weave their nests, they certainly don't weave cloth!
