General

Information is based on dictionaries and other sources. Comments and corrections welcome.

The cisticolas were originally known as 錦鴝 jǐn-qú 'brocade robins' in Taiwan, but the Mainland name 扇尾鶯 shàn-wěi-yīng 'fan-tailed warblers' has now been adopted. The prinias are known as 鷦鶯 jiāo-yīng 'wren warblers', a compound word created from 鷦鷯 jiāoliáo 'wren' and yīng 'warbler'.
