The cisticolas were originally known as 錦鴝 'brocade robins' in Taiwan, but the Mainland name 扇尾鶯 'fan-tailed warblers' has now been adopted. The prinias are known as 鷦鶯 'wren warblers', a compound word created from 鷦鷯 'wren' and 鶯 'warbler'.
