山雀 'mountain-sparrow' (or 'mountain sparrow') is the Chinese word for 'tit'. The long-tailed tits are thus known as 長尾山雀 'long-tailed mountain finches/sparrows'. However, the 長尾 'long-tail' is omitted from Taiwanese naming.
