General
This list should be regarded as being 'in beta'. Information is based on dictionaries and other sources. Many Kazakh, Turkish, and Korean glosses are highly tentative. Comments and corrections welcome.
Only featuring in recent Mongolian lists, the Flavescent Bulbul bears the borrowed name Бөлбөл bölböl. (Note that this differs from the original Turkic meaning of this word, which is 'nightingale'.)
In Inner Mongolia, the bulbuls are known as Шугшуур shugshuur, which appears to be related to the word Шогшуур shogshuur, an alternative name for the cuckoos. For example, the Chinese Bulbul is known as Цагаан түрүүт шугшуур tsagaaŋ türüüt shugshuur 'white-headed bulbul' (also Алаг толгой alag tolgoi 'motley head').
