General names

The following is based on analysis of dictionaries and other sources. Comments and corrections are welcome.

The official Vietnamese name for the thrushes is Hoét. However, this name is not necessarily highly familiar to the laymen as it does not appear in many Vietnamese dictionaries.

Several thrushes in the genus Zoothera are called Sáo đất, literally 'ground starling'. Sáo is a common bird name applied to a number of similar-looking birds including the ground thrushes, starlings, mynahs, and sometimes magpies.

Cô cô, quite clearly a loan word, is the official name given to the Cochoa.
