General names

This list should be regarded as being 'in beta'. Information is based on dictionaries and other sources. Many Kazakh, Turkish, and Korean glosses are highly tentative. Comments and corrections welcome.

The thrushes are known as Хөөндэй khööndei or Хөөндий khööndii in Mongolian. Another name is Таргалж targalj.

There is some indeterminacy about the application of these names, possibly a result of regional variation in usage. One Mongolian-Chinese dictionary equates Хөөндэй khööndei to Phoenicurus. A Mongolian dictionary defines Таргалж targalj as a light-blue passerine that comes in the summer months (a description not specific enough for clear identification).

Under the 2007 names, the genus Turdus is assigned the name Хөөндэй khööndei and Zoothera (one species only, Zoothera dauma) is assigned the variant name Хөөндий khööndii.
