General
This list should be regarded as being 'in beta'. Information is based on dictionaries and other sources. Many Kazakh, Turkish, and Korean glosses are highly tentative. Comments and corrections welcome.
The Hoopoe is known in Mongolian by several names: Өвөөлж övöölj, Бөвөөлж bövöölj, and Бөвөөлжин bövööljiŋ. There is also the name Данан бялзуухай danaŋ byalzuukhai, meaning 'solitary sparrow' (where бялзуухай byalzuukhai is a general name for small birds).
The 2007 official names combine two names into the double-barrelled Бөвөөлжин өвөөлж bövööljiŋ övöölj.
