The Waxwings are known in Mongolian as Энхэт бялзуухай enkhet byalzuukhai 'peace finch'. The word бялзуухай byalzuukhai is a general term for all kinds of small songbirds in Mongolian. The meaning of the name bears an uncanny resemblance to the Chinese name.
In the 2007 list, the name is combined into one word: Энхэтбялзуухай eŋkhet-byalzuukhai 'peace finch'.
