General

Information is based on dictionaries and other sources. Pinyin readings reflect standard Mandarin usage; for some dialect alternative names it may be of little practical use, especially for South China. Many Korean glosses are highly tentative. Comments and corrections welcome.

The drongoes are known as 卷尾 juǎn-wěi 'curl tails'. The racket-tailed drongoes are known as 小盘尾 xiǎo pán wěi or 大盘尾 dà pán wěi 'small plate-tails' or 'large plate-tails' because of their peculiar-shaped tails.

Mongolian: The drongoes are known as Жадат jadat 'having a lance/spear', Жадат хар jadat khar 'having lance/spear black', or Жадат хар шувуу jadat khar shuvuu 'having lance/spear black bird'.
