The drongo is called the オウチュウ ōchū, origin of name unknown. It is written 烏秋, meaning 'black/dark autumn' or 'crow autumn, although these are probably ateji (characters unrelated to the word's etymology that have been chosen in an effort to represent it). Besides Dicrurus macrocercus listed here, D. leucophaeus is reported to have been sighted in Okinawa.
