The paradise flycatchers (Terpsiphone) are known as 綬帶鳥 'coloured ribbon bird' or 綬帶 'coloured ribbon' because of their colourful appearance. Since 'coloured ribbon' can refer to the type of ribbon that is used on a coffin, the more auspicious-sounding 壽帶 'longevity belt' is more common.
The monarch flycatcher is known as 籃鶲 'blue flycatcher'. On the Mainland, it is known as 王鶲 'king flycatcher', which looks suspiciously like a calque (loan translation) from English. The Mainland name is also used for the Taiwanese family name.
