General names
The following is based on analysis of dictionaries and other sources. Comments and corrections are welcome.
Since they are a familiar bird to the Vietnamese, it's not surprising that there are three different names for the hornbills: Hồng hoàng, Cao cát, and Niệc. Of these, however, only Hồng hoàng is found in everyday dictionaries.
