Notes
Under Sibley and Monroe, the oyster-catchers belong to the Recurvirostrinae, a subfamily of the Charadriidae (the other subfamily being the Charadriinae or plovers). The Sibley-Monroe Recurvirostrinae includes what Howard and Moore treat as three separate families: the Recurvirostridae (stilts and avocets), the Haematopodidae (oyster-catchers), and the Ibidorhynchidae (ibisbills).
