General names

This list should be regarded as being 'in beta'. Information is based on dictionaries and other sources. Many Kazakh, Turkish, and Korean glosses are highly tentative. Comments and corrections welcome.

The flamingos were originally known in Mongolian as Нал дэглий nal deglii 'ruby heron'. The form Нил дэглий nil deglii also exists.

The 2007 bird list uses the word 'ruby' as the name of the bird, Ягаан нал yagaaŋ nal 'pink ruby', as the name дэглий deglii is reserved for the genus Ardea.
