The Asian Fairy-Bluebird is known in Chinese as the 和平鸟 hépíng-niǎo or 'peace bird', an example of inspired modern naming.

For the leafbirds, the earliest ornithological list of Chinese birds using Chinese names (Chinese Birds (35) in 1927) suggested 叶鸟 yè-niǎo 'leaf bird', a direct translation of English 'leafbird'. This has since been changed to 叶鹎 yè-bēi or 'leaf bulbul' to suggest a resemblance to the bulbuls (Pycnonotidae).
