The Mongolian name for the White-throated Dipper is Гялаан омруут gyalaan omruut, which appears to mean 'shining breasted' (the alternative form Гялан омруут gyalan omruut is clearer on this point, as гялан gyalan is quite clearly 'shining').
The 2007 official names use the name Харзлай kharzlai, which is not found in normal dictionaries. At a guess, the name is derived from the verb харзлах kharzlakh, which means 'stay unfrozen', referring to patches of water that don't freeze in winter. The proposed etymology is lent some credence by the tendency of White-throated Dippers to remain at swift hill streams during winter as long as there is open water.
