Information is based on dictionaries and other sources. Comments and corrections welcome.

The only member of the family found on Taiwan, the Fairy Pitta (Pitta nympha), is known as the 八色鸟 bā-sè-niǎo 'eight-coloured bird'. This name is based on the Japanese name for the Fairy Pitta, ヤイロチョウ (八色鳥) ya-iro-tsugumi 'eight-coloured bird'. On the Mainland, the pittas are known as 八色鶇 bā-sè-dōng 'eight-coloured thrush'.
